Romanian online Books in Print catalogue 2008 – 2014

Romanian online Books in Print catalogue 2008 – 2014

The online Infocarte Books in Print catalogue, launched on 30th March 2010 in Bucharest, provided public information about books from Romanian publishers with an ISBN that are available on the market. The catalogue included information about availability and the price of a book, number of pages, year of publication, subject of the book, and the language of the publication.

It had a section about the newest books, and gave information about authors, translators, publishers, bookshops, antiquarian bookstores, book distributors, importers and exporters, libraries, with links to all relevant websites. Further, it provided book reviews and news with links to relevant websites, and a section with Useful links to book trade-related organisations and institutions.

An electronic newsletter was sent twice a week to subscribers with alerts on new books and other book-related events such as literary prizes, book launches, and other events and developments in the book trade.

The project has provided (a) the knowledge and training needed for the development, maintenance and use of the BIP catalogue, (b) promotion, (c) partial funding for the three year project period on a decreasing scale, and guidance in financing the Books in Print – itself a non-profit activity – increasingly by the project participants to make it self-sustainable at the end of the project.

Initiated at the request of the Romanian Publishers’ Association (AER), the Books in Print catalogue benefited from the expertise of the Fund for Central and East European Book Projects, and cooperation with the National Book Centre of the Romanian Cultural Institute (CENNAC / ICR) in Bucharest.

The project was made possible with the financial support of the ERSTE Foundation in Vienna.
