Ukrainian Books for Education in Tolerance 2008 – 2011

The aim of the BETol project, initiated by Ukrainian history teachers, was to reach a wider audience with solid historical titles and other quality books on the topic, books that can assist in acquiring knowledge and better understanding of the past and the present, and that can be used in secondary and university education, but also reach a larger readership outside academic circles. The book list includes memoirs, biographies, and quality novels. The project consisted of:

  • translation, publication and dissemination of books concerning relations between Ukrainians, their neighbours, and minorities in Ukraine
  • introducing the books in seminars for secondary school history teachers, school inspectors and school supervisors, lecturers and students of pedagogical faculties, librarians, and journalists to assist in using the material in their daily practice.

For the dissemination of the publications to the seminar participants in each of the 25 regional capital cities use was made of the distribution network developed with the assistance of CEEBP in the Ukrainian Book Trade Project.

The project, co-financed by the Matra department of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Anne Frank House, and CEEBP, started in the autumn 2008, and was completed in autumn 2011.See the overview in Newsletter No. 30, December 2011
